April Garner Davis
April Garner Davis, a native of Conway, SC, moved to Winston-Salem, NC in 2021. After arriving in Winston-
Salem, she served for four years as the Program Director for Leadership Winston-Salem, an immersive nine-
month program onboarding participants each year to engage in leader connectivity and community service
activities throughout Winston-Salem and Forsyth County. Previously, she served for 10 years as Director of the
Career Services Division at Horry Georgetown Technical College. In her role, she was responsible for
developing strategic plans for career and professional development activities for the college’s students and
alumni, establishing business and collegiate partnerships throughout the community and the state, and
identifying employment opportunities for students and graduates. April has been featured in local and
national media and facilitated workshops based on her expertise in career and professional development.
Before her career in Higher Education, April worked in the marketing and advertising industry for more than
20 years in the Myrtle Beach (Horry County) area for several corporations and advertising agencies.
Davis earned her Bachelor degree from The University of South Carolina and obtained a Master of Education
degree with an emphasis in Higher Education Administration from Columbia College, where she was
recognized as the 2014 Graduate Student of the Year.
Her professional and community endeavors include service as:
• President of the South Carolina Association of Colleges and Employers Chairperson for the South
Carolina Technical College System Career Services Peer Group
• Board member and officer for several non-profits, including The Academy of Hope Public Charter
School, A Father’s Place, The Shepherd’s Table, The Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club of Horry
County, Educate Our Youth, and The WES Sports Camp Foundation
• Founder of The Network, an online social media group and business directory promoting black business
owners and professionals (3,000+ membership) primarily in Horry and Georgetown counties
• Co-host of the World Community Magazine’s Hour of Power and The Network Live community talk
shows (Horry County) and facilitator of organization’s Teen Summer Jobs and Literacy program
Some of her noted accomplishments and recognitions include:
• Co-authored HGTC’s newest Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) with high accolades from the Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)
• Awarded the 2019 South Carolina Technical College Association HGTC Staff Member of the Year award
• Honored by the City of Conway with the 2019 Community Service Award at the Mayor’s Awards
Banquet
• Recognized as the 2020 Recipient of the Drum Major Service award by the Carolina African American
Heritage Foundation
• Co-coordination of significant disaster relief efforts for Horry County residents after Hurricane Florence
Davis’ numerous involvements are an extension of her dedication to educating others on working collectively
to improve social conditions and the creation of opportunities for individual and community growth and
empowerment.
